Partners

Monash University is the centre for research programs of the ARC Research Hub for Smart Process Design and Control, but the hub brings together expertise from a range of talented University Partners across three Australian states and four countries.

Key Funding Partner

The ARC Research Hub for Smart Process Design and Control acknowledges the generous support from the Australian Research Council through its Industrial Transformations Research Program, which offers a suite of funding schemes attractive to both university-based researchers and industries.

The ARC Research Hub for Smart Process Design and Control was one of 13 ARC Industrial Transformation programs to split $64.8M worth of funding, being awarded $5M of this sum, which is the maximum amount of funding available, under the Industrial Transformation Research Hubs scheme, which has objectives to:

  1. Encourage collaborative Research and Development projects to address challenging industry issues solved through innovative research relevant to the Industrial Transformation Priorities;
  2. Attract investment from the global and international business community by underpinning internationally-recognised excellence of Australian universities and their industry partners; and
  3. Leverage private and international investment in targeted industry sectors.

University Partners

In addition to partnering for research, these universities have contributed a combined 0.95M towards the Hub’s goals. Leveraging the combined expertise of 30 academic and industry researchers the hub will provide funding and mentoring to support PhD students, thus developing a new generation of industry aware researchers.

Industry Partners

The ARC Research Hub for Smart Process Design and Control achieves collaboration between industry partners, providing sector-wide industry representation.

The Research Hub represents a comprehensive collaborative effort to address the key competitive challenges confronting the Australian minerals and metallurgical industries. It builds on the many years of collaborative research between the industry and the University sector. Our key industry partners (Rio Tinto, China Steel Corporation (CSC), and Baosteel) are a unique grouping, representing the important industries such as the minerals, metallurgical, materials, chemical, energy, pharmaceutical and environment.

Financial supports include $7.3M in cash and an equal sum of $7.3M in kind. In addition, these companies will provide internal experimental and plant data for the project. Depending on the significance, the results from model predictions may also lead to industrial scale tests in plants and field work. In other words, the industry partners will offer various opportunities for the postdoctoral fellows and PhD researchers to spend significant periods of time in industrial research and plant environments as part of their projects. The support outlined above will ensure effective interactions between industrial end-users and university-based researchers for this fundamental and applied collaborative research and are essential to the successful completion of this project.
