Prof. Shen is a Full Professor of Metallurgical Engineering (tenured) and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences & Engineering (ATSE). He is an active leading scientist in “Green Metals” including ‘Low-cost Green Ironmaking’ and ‘Metal Recovery from Recycling’ and is leading a vibrant and sizeable group (>40 members currently) – “UNSW SCoPE Lab for Green Metals” (www.SCoPE.unsw.edu.au), with applications to a range of complex processes and reactors, especially in resource and energy industries, including process metallurgy, solid fuel preparation/utilisation, and renewable energy processes e.g. biomass/hydrogen and recycling (solar panel, plastic and battery). His research interests range from understanding fundamentals to optimising & developing new, cleaner and more efficient technologies, powered by advanced numerical and experimental approaches.
